Who We Are
ST Radio is a division of Sarkes Tarzian, Inc., founded in 1944 by pioneering engineer, inventor, and broadcaster Sarkes Tarzian.
A Turkish Armenian emigrant, Sarkes Tarzian held engineering posts with Atwater-Kent and RCA before forming his own company, Sarkes Tarzian Inc., in Bloomington in 1944. The company eventually employed 2,000 in the manufacture of radio and television equipment, tuners, and components. Building much of his own equipment, Tarzian put WTTS-AM radio on the air in 1949, as well as WTTV (the state’s second television station to sign on). In 1960, the company launched WTTV-FM (now WTTS-FM), one of the area’s first FM stations. Sarkes Tarzian manufactured studio color TV cameras in the mid-1960s. The manufacturing operations were spun off in the 1970s and today the company exists as a broadcaster, owning the ST Radio division as well as television stations KTVN (Reno, NV) and WRCB (Chattanooga, TN), along with ST Digital Solutions, a full-service agency offering cutting-edge digital marketing solutions.
